The time to change the oil depends on many types of factors, such as:
- Engine condition – wear of rings and cylinders.
- Calibration of the fuel injection system.
- Operating conditions – traffic, roads or dusty areas.
- Continuous use time – Long or very short trips.
- SAE grade and API level.
- Combination of oils with different SAE grades and API levels.
- Driving conditions – Cold start, accelerating the engine before shutting it
IS IT ALL RIGHT TO CHANGE THE API LEVEL OR SAE DEGREE?
The highest of API Service Levels (SN, SM, SL, CJ, CI, CH) contain a greater amount of detergent and dispersant additives, in order to keep the engine cleaner, preventing the rings from becoming stuck in the ring grooves. Precaution is advised when adding these oils to vehicle engines that normally operate with lower API levels.
Rubber, soot, carbon, lacquers and varnish accumulations in the grooves and rings of the engine pistons are removed by the higher level of detergency/dispersance provided by API high service level oils.
1) Use VENOCO lubricants with the adequate service level.
2) Check the vehicle manual for:
Recommended engine oil: SAE and API.
- Transmission fluid, gearbox oil and differential fluid.
- Oil/fluid change intervals.
- Coolant for cooling system.
- Re-greasing of bearings, joints and cardan.
- Air / oil and fuel filter.
- General maintenance.
3) Change the oil filter every oil change.
4) Change the air and fuel filters every 2 or 3 oil changes.
